‘Girl Dinner’ was the Manhattan project of girl-ifying everyday life. And of course, the root of ‘Girl Dinner’ was humorously comparing the difference between a guy’s version of a quick meal and a woman’s. However, since the coining of ‘Girl Dinner,’ girls have been under constant barrage of new “girl” trends: ‘Girl Math,’ ‘Hot Girl Walk,’ and now ‘Girl Hobbies.’

Most phrase trends go like this; A person on TikTok will speak to the camera with absolute authority on a “new” topic that has definitely been researched and intellectualized before. They’ll come up with a cool quippy and then people take those TikToker’s words as gospel and proceed to drop the new phrase everywhere on the internet until we’re all sick of it. Rinse and repeat.

I give you…girl hobby

TikTok user @itslobirch decided to remedy women feeling as if they have no hobbies (which apparently is now a thing) by explaining “You just have girl hobbies.” These “girl” hobbies include grabbing a little treat, doing your hair and makeup, or online window shopping (i.e. filling a cart with items you were never gonna checkout).

@itslobirch made a small series listing more examples of ‘Girl Hobbies.' All of the activities she listed are hobbies but dressing it up as a “girl” thing negates the creator's objective. It takes the idea of browsing bookstores and online clothing sites as less of an activity that literally so many people partake in and makes it inherently “girl.”

 There are already stereotypes about what women do for fun, we don’t need a new phrase to pacify or explain to others that we are allowed activities beyond knitting.

The “Girl” fatigue is real and sooner or later we will read “my girl hobby is going on a hot girl walk before having girl dinner and rotting in bed cause it’s feral girl winter.“ And we will all want sweet release from this mortal plane (if you don’t already).
